CommUNITY: Inspiration from Melinda Stearns
Hi friends! Today we are here with an installment of our monthly series, CommUNITY, where we share artwork from artists who we'd love for you to get to know. CommUNITY is about embracing and honoring the creativity of individuals who are often underrepresented. By sharing art from a diverse group of creators, we hope to not only bring inspiration to this papercrafting community we all love so much, but also support and empower individuals to be their authentic selves as they create and share. Look for a new CommUNITY guest artist right here on the blog each month. Today our fantastic guest is Melinda Stearns!
I started crafting about 7 years ago when I decided I would make my own Christmas cards (we all know how this ends) and haven't stopped since. Crafting has led me to other joys like learning to watercolor and working with alcohol markers. I live in a small town in Northern California with my husband and our fur bundle of joy, Darby. We do lots of gardening, canning and cooking in our free time. Honestly, I'm probably crafting.
I was inspired by the vastness of the universe and how we, humans are just a speck in the vastness of it all. I love this image of the women from Better Together and how it represents connectedness. I hope this card inspires the unity and joy I feel and hope for everyday.
For my second card I used Skin Tone Liquid Watercolors to create an ombre effect and die-cut the Together Window Fancy Die. Sticking with my theme of the universe, I watercolored the night sky for the hands to frame.
I thought the Through the Woods Window Fancy Die was perfect for this card. I so love the Unity collection and all that it represents!
Melinda, thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous card and talent with us today! You can find more of Melinda's beautiful creations over on Instagram.
