Today we're delighted to have Debi Adams here to share some fabulous “beyond the kit” ideas for a few of the add-ons. Take it away, Debi...

Oh hey friends! Debi Adams here and I am happy to be on the Hero Arts blog today showcasing some fun, fabulous and new, My Monthly Hero stamp, die and stencil collections. These Art Deco-style designs are most definitely not a “Diamond in the Ruff” but beautiful, classic and elegant. And with just a little creativity, they could be made to look modern and trendy too!

For my first card, I created a large, hand-cut diamond shape that was matted onto gold poster board. This made for a perfect background that corresponded to the sentiment. I adhered it to black cardstock that measured 3 3/4” x 5”, and then placed that onto an 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” card base.

I stamped the dogs from the Diamond in the Ruff stamp set onto white cardstock using Intense Black Ink. The dogs were die-cut and attached with adhesive and foam dots and then were embellished with rhinestones. Finally, the sentiment was stamped and embossed using Versamark and gold embossing powder onto on a strip of black cardstock and attached to top of the diamond shape. Super simple but clean and classy.

For this next card I thought it would be fun to change it up by using texture paste. I really like mixed media and dabbling in dimension and this is exactly what the paste brings to the card. You can find texture paste at your local art & craft store.

To create this effect, simply tape the 5 3/4” x 5 3/4” glittered cardstock to your work area so that it doesn’t move while working. Lay the Graphic Deco stencil on top of that piece and tape it down as well. I taped it at the top and bottom. Using a knife, carefully spread the texture paste over the entire stencil then use an old credit card or a clean knife to wipe of the excess. When smooth, lift off stencil. (Be sure to wash stencil right away to prevent paste from drying on stencil.) Allow paste to dry, usually a half hour or so. It is then ready to have a decorative piece and embossed sentiment attached. I adhered the entire piece to a 6” x 6” cardstock card base and the card was complete. I love the art deco pattern in this stencil!

No matter which of the styles above are yours, I hope you will have found them easy to create and learned a technique or two along the way. So glad you stopped by.

Debi thank you so much for your awesome cards. I love them both but my favorite is the second one, so great idea to put texture paste on top of glittered cardstock. It give such an elegant touch, the whole card is showing the 1920s!
