Using Infinity Dies to Create Colorful Shaped Backgrounds

As card makers, most of us probably have a few go-to techniques or designs that we frequently reuse because we always love the results. For me, one of those never-fail designs is to create a beautiful, inked background layered with a shaped, die-cut frame. Then, paired with delightful images from a new or favorite stamp set, such as the adorable Winter Critters Bundle, the combinations of fun card designs are countless.

To make today’s holiday card, I started by selecting the images and verse that I wanted to use on my card from the Winter Critters Bundle. These choices gave me the inspiration I needed to choose a shape for my background. In this case, I decided that a heart would be perfect. Using one of the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies, I die cut a heart shape from a trimmed panel of Dove White cardstock and then stamped a heartfelt sentiment below the die-cut window with Espresso Ink.

Next, I used a Blending Brush to blend Fruit Punch Reactive Ink onto the front of a Dove White Side Folded Card. I was careful not to blend the ink to the edges of the card front as I only wanted the ink to show from behind the heart frame. As I was blending, I periodically held the die-cut panel over my card to ensure that I had completely inked the visible area behind the heart. Before securing the die-cut panel to the card with foam tape, I splattered the inked area with water to create spots that resemble falling snow.

To embellish the card, I stamped and die-cut a cute hedgehog, a precious rabbit, and three branches of leaves with berries with Intens-ified Black Ink. Using inexpensive colored pencils, I colored each image and then secured them to the card with Precision Glue. For added interest, I glued one branch inside of the die-cut frame and then I glued the critters and other branches on top of the frame. I finished the card with three, scattered Neutrals Enamel Dots.

I’m already thinking about my next Infinity Die and stamp combinations, are you? What are your favorite go-to designs?

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope your day is wonderful and crafty!
