When was the last time that you made a shaker card? I’m always surprised by how much joy an unexpected card, particularly a shaker card, can bring someone. This week, I was inspired to make a shaker card using the beautiful, new Elegant Window Fancy Die from the 2021 Holiday Catalog. This window die completely cuts out nine window panes and also makes some design slits around the panes to create the subtle appearance of a window frame. It’s a lovely detail and perfect for shaker cards.
For my card, I started by blending Blue Hawaii, Splash, and Blue Raspberry Reactive inks onto a panel of Dove White cardstock using several ink blending brushes. I’m always amazed how effortless blending is using these brushes. After trimming the panel with my favorite Rectangle Infinity Die, I secured it to the center of a Mist card base and set it aside. Next, I used the Elegant Window Fancy Die to cut a window into a piece of trimmed, white cardstock. I secured a portion of an acetate sheet to the back of the panel to cover the cut out panes. To complete the shaker element, I poured some sequins onto the center of the ink blended panel and then secured the window panel over the sequins with foam tape.
To embellish the card, I started by stamping a pretty sentiment from the Line Art Flowers set using Intensi-fied Black ink onto panel’s lower right corner. I used the same set to stamp several flowers that I colored with colored pencils, die cut with the Line Art Flowers Frame Cuts, and secured to the card with Precision Glue. I also stamped a single butterfly from the Bug You set, die cut it with the coordinating dies, and secured it atop a flower with foam tape.
Finally, because sometimes more embellishments are better (wink), I couldn’t resist adding a small sentiment tag tied to the card’s edge with black cording. I simply heat embossed a small message from the Message Strips Stamp & Cut XL set with Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink and White Embossing Powder onto Pitch Black cardstock and then glued it to a Paradise tag.
