Ice cream, sherbet, sorbet, gelato…I’ve never met a frozen treat I didn’t love! Naturally, when the Color Layering Ice Cream set came out, it was an immediate favorite and has since become my go-to set for birthday cards. It works for anyone! Today’s card was inspired by some of the yummiest raspberry gelato ever…
I started with a very light background wash of watercolor and then got to work stamping the various layers for the gelato and cone. I was going for an intense raspberry color and ended up coming up with it in an unexpected way.
First I stamped the solid scoop layer with Strawberry pigment ink from the Color Brights by Lia set. Nice, but not quite what I had in mind, so I kept going and stamped that same solid layer on top with Neon Pink ink. Much better — nice and bright, but less bright than the Neon Pink would have been on its own. The top layer of stamping was done with Crimson hybrid ink. Although it was unplanned, I ended up mixing pigment, dye and hybrid inks together on this one image. Just have fun playing and you’ll be surprised at the looks you can get by layering different inks.
The Soft Brown to Cup o' Joe Ombré inkpad is perfect for the cone. You can use the lightest shade in the pad for the base, and the darkest color for the top layer.
Topping the treat is a heart from the Sending Smiles set that I covered with Glossy Accents. The black and white strip is also from the Sending Smiles set. A few splatters and sequins finish off the card.
