Embossing Powder Swatches

As holiday cardmarking kicks into full gear, today we’re going to take a look at the four newest additions to our embossing powder lineup. These are brand new this year and perfect for holiday cards!

I’ve embossed six different powders onto a single strip of white cardstock to show you how they compare to one another. Say hello to White Satin Pearl, Platinum, Brass, Copper, and our old friends Silver and Gold…

Even though the gorgeous metallic luster is a bit difficult to capture in photos, it’s easy to see how the four new powders fit into the metallic spectrum.

  • White Satin Pearl is opalescent and a lovely alternative to clear embossing powder. Think frost and subtle shimmer.
  • Platinum sits somewhere in between Silver and Gold, beautiful in its warmth. The height of elegance.
  • Brass still falls into the “golden” category, yet is less yellowy than our classic Gold. Simply stunning.
  • Copper is just what you’d expect, imparting a warm, reddish metallic sheen. I’m currently loving the combination of ivory and copper for holiday cards!

Wondering how the powders look on various colors of cardstock? I embossed our Small Snowflake onto three different colored squares. It’s interesting how the effect can change, depending on the cardstock choice.

I plan to start an embossing powder swatch book by punching holes in the corners of these and putting them on a binder ring.

Check out Yana’s video below for some tips and tricks for heat embossing, as well as a look at the new powders.

I hope this comparison will be helpful as you shop and plan your holiday cards. What is your go-to color for metallic embossing? Are you planning to emboss your cards this holiday season? Leave a comment and let me know. Happy embossing, everyone!
