Color Layering Dimensional Bird

Two of my favorite things to make for my friends and family during the holidays are unique gift tags and handmade ornaments. Today, I’m sharing an easy project that I made with the CL906 Color Layering Dimensional Bird set that can be both a special gift tag and a fun ornament!

To create these tags, I started by stamping the beautiful bird outline multiple times on white cardstock with AF214 Cup O’ Joe Mid-tone Shadow Ink ink. Using the same brown ink, I similarly stamped a few branches from this set. Then, using all of my favorite shadow inks, I easily stamped multiple colors onto each bird using the matching stamps. Creating the different color combinations was so much fun!

I decided to add extra dimension to each bird image by stamping, fussy cutting, and foam mounting a second layer to the wings. I stamped a holiday sentiment from the CL880 Peace & Joy set on narrow strips of cardstock that I inked to match by swiping my ink pads directly across the paper. For another element, I stamped a leaf for each tag. I used the DI153 Color Layering Dimensional Bird Frame Cuts to perfectly cut each of my stamped images and the DI150 Joy To The World Frame Cuts to cut glittered stars.

I purchased inexpensive, 3-inch grapevine wreaths from my local craft store to use as bases for my tags. With all of my pieces stamped and cut, assembly was a breeze. I used white glue to adhere the cardstock pieces together and adhesive dots to attach the cardstock to the wreaths. I threaded a simple, jute loop through the top of each wreath and for a final embellishment, I added a fabric flower with a pearl onto each star.
