One Stencil, Two Ways

Today two of our artists, Donna Mikasa and Mariana Grigsby, were each asked to create a card featuring one of our new stencils from Hero Arts + BasicGrey - Floral Vines. It's one of two gorgeous stencils from the J'Adore Collection, part of the new Valentine's Day 2015 release. It's interesting to see how the designers used the stencil in very similar ways, but each with their own unique flair. First up is Donna... The new Floral Vines Stencil is so pretty and ornate that I decided to use it simply as a stencil. To keep it a one layer card, I masked two sides of the stencil and added strips of cardstock to frame the panel.

You can switch up the colors or even use several colors, depending on the occasion. I used a thank you sentiment, stamped with the darkest ink color and added some pearls as a finishing touch.

Now let's take a look at the next card. Donna mentioned using several colors, and Mariana must have been listening... :)

For my card featuring the Floral Vines Stencil, first I created the background of my card by using the stencil along with different ink pad colors.

I simply sponged them over the open area using daubers. Simple yet fun!

It is great when you can make your very own color combination using Hero Arts inks, because then, you can easily coordinate your creation with matching layering papers. ;)

I also made a small panel to stamp a “Thank You” sentiment. Then, I used some white paper flowers to which I applied color on them to match the colors of my card. You can rub the flowers directly onto the ink pad, or you can also add color by using another great product: Ink Spray. No matter what you choose to do, it is always fun. Finally, I complemented my card with burlap string and some yummy light green pearls.
