Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge #7

May 08, 2020 Hero Arts

Hi everyone! It's time for our next Stay Crafty with Hero challenge! This week's theme is Essential Kindness. We're challenging you to make thank you cards to give to essential workers! The simple act of giving someone a handmade card can brighten their day - you are cardmakers, you know this! Bring a card with you for the grocery store cashier, the pharmacist, leave one for your Instacart driver or restaurant delivery person. Leave one in your mailbox for your mail carrier. Send one to the Covid floor at your local hospital. Show a bit of handstamped kindness to the people in your own community who you are thankful for. Of course, you don't have to tell us what you do with your cards unless you want to, we just want to see thank you cards linked at the bottom of this post!

Keep scrolling to the end of this post to find out how to share your project to be in the running for our prize, but first, here's an example from Daniel...

Hi there, Daniel here with a card for the heroes around us. Making a card for someone who has worked their hearts out recently can bring some much needed encouragement. They give so much of themselves in every way, this challenge will inspire us to use what we have to bring a smile to their face.

I created a project using a few add-ons from this month's release, as well as items from the main May My Monthly Hero kit. The sentiment from the kit says it all -- YOU MAKE TODAY BETTER! I laid it down on some Hero Hues Lavender Cardstock using Grape Juice Shadow Ink.

Then, I die cut several layers of clouds from Radiant White Cardstock using the Cloudy Sky Scene Dies. I adhered these layers around the sentiment over the Lavender panel. Next, using the Heart Tree Stamp and Cut die, I die cut some hearts from Amethyst Cardstock. Then, I scattered them in an array around the sentiment, with the smaller hearts at the top, and gradually getting bigger toward the bottom. I tucked some of them between the clouds, too.

Next, I stamped and die cut the little bi-plane out and colored it in with Copic markers in V09, V06, V05 and V04. I also colored the hearts with the same Copic colors in a dark to light order the smaller they were. Then, I popped up the plane at the bottom of the hearts so that it looks like they are the exhaust from the plane.

To finish off the card, I popped up the panel on some Amethyst Cardstock and adhered that to a white card base.

Now it's your turn - we'd absolutely love for you to join us! We want to encourage you to actually sit down and enjoy the process of creating. We know it is a source of fun, relaxation and stress relief - something we all can use a bit more of right now. Create a new card for this challenge with the theme of ESSENTIAL KINDNESS. Use the Inlinkz tool at the very bottom of this post to link up your card, and you will be entered into our drawing. We will be giving a $35 gift certificate randomly to one person who plays along! To link up your project, you need to share it publicly somewhere you can grab the link - this can be your blog, Instagram, a Flickr account - anything that allows you to have a URL or website location to link up.

We, of course, encourage you to use your favorite Hero Arts products. But any and all entries are eligible for consideration. We really care most about you bringing a little inky joy into your life. Entries must be submitted by Thursday, May 14 at 5:00pm PT to be eligible for the giveaway, and the winner will be announced when we announce our new challenge on Friday, May 15. Scroll down below the product thumbnails to find the linkup! If you share your project on social media, we'd love if you'd use the #staycraftywithhero hashtag.

Last week's challenge was Out of the Box - a big thanks to everyone who played along! Our random winner is from the Instagram account @art_of_albara, who created these wonderful earrings with our Wonders of the World Bold Prints and some shrink plastic.

Congratulations Anne-Laure! Email us at info@heroarts.com with "Stay Crafty Challenge Winner" in the subject to claim your prize.

Here's to connection, creativity, inspiration, and kindness. ❤

I’ve ordered the card kit for this month and can’t wait to get it. But I’ve been busy making cards for another group of people who are very special to me. I live in a tiny village in Saskatchewan, Canada. There are less than 200 people in our community. Some in the village, some on surrounding farms. It’s a beautiful place. I made 120 thank you cards. One to each family. Thank you for keeping our village free of COVID-19. Self distancing, the grocery store leaves your grocery order on your porch. For those of us that are alone, chat lines keep us involved socially. True friends. EVERYONE!!! We’re “ALONE TOGETHER!!!” But it has even more meaning to me. I’m a senior with chronic lung disease, and am on oxygen. To me they are my frontline workers.

I don’t know if the US has it but Western Australia has a Facebook site where you can adopt a health care worker. During the great toilet paper shortage, we could donate tp to orderlies, nurses, doctors etc who couldn’t necessarily shop for them selves. Our local material shop donated pure cotton fabric to sewers for scrubs and those of us who cook, dropped in nutritious soups and salads to sustain our health care workers. I’m so proud of how our community in spite of being a relatively large population of 2 million people, all pulled together to support them who support us…

I love the theme of this challenge and have several people I’m already thinking of. I’ve made quite a few “thinking of you” cards during recent weeks and it’s been nice to pop them into the mail to surprise people. I know it touches people in a really nice way, especially now. Thank you Hero Arts for keeping me crafty! Playing with paper is always a good day for me.

I really love Daniel card, I don’t often use purple on my cards but this give me a great inspiration on how to use it. It’s simple and beautiful and I love how the plane spread love from the sky, so many people could get some (as Daniel do helping people around him).

I am so happy and feel so lucky to have won this challenge. Thank you very much Hero Arts ! I hope some people will show other jewellery creations with that technique <3
