Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge #20

Feb 05, 2021 Hero Arts

Hello crafty friends! It's time for another Stay Crafty With Hero challenge! This month we are encouraging you to join us in making Gift Card Holders. Any sort of gift card holder will do. We have a couple products that create holders - Gift Card Holder Fancy Die and Paper Layering Present Gift Card Pop-Up - but feel free to get creative and make your own! We'll include all of the challenge details further down this post, but first, here's an idea for creating a gift card holder, with a template, from Daniel!

Hey everyone! Daniel here with my take on a handmade gift card holder. I reached back in time and pulled out some stamps from one of my all time favorite collections from March 2020 -- the Parasol Pattern Bold Prints and the Kittens in Kimonos stamp set.

To create my handmade gift card, I first drew a pattern by cutting a piece of cardstock to 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. Then, I scored it at 2" then at 4 3/8. This created three sections -- 2", 2 3/8" and 2 1/8".

Next, scored the panel at 1/2" on each side down its entire length. I cut out tabs on each side at 1/2" and angled the edges. Then, I rounded the corners of each end of the panel with a corner chomper to give it a finished look.

Following the pattern, then, I trimmed down some Cranberry cardstock to 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. I heat embossed the Parasol Pattern Bold Prints image on it with Gold Embossing Powder. Then, I scored and tabbed it.

Next, I folded the tabs inward and the bottom flap over them and adhered them together with Scor-tape. I stamped the the "I appreciate you" sentiment on a strip of Cranberry cardstock and melted Gold Embossing Powder over it. Then, I folded it over the edges of my gift card holder, connecting each end with Precision Glue to create a belly band.

To finish off my project, I stamped out the kitten image with Intense Black Ink onto some Dove White cardstock and colored it in with warm gray, green and red Copic markers. I cut it out and adhered it to the other side of my belly band. Finally, I used a gold gel pen to add some details to the bow and kimono.

Now it's your turn! Create a new card for this challenge with the theme Gift Card Holders. Use the Inlinkz tool at the very bottom of this post to link up your card, and you will be entered into our drawing. We will be giving a $50 gift certificate randomly to one person who plays along! To link up your project, you need to share it publicly somewhere you can grab the link - this can be your blog, Instagram, a Flickr account - anything that allows you to have a URL or website location to link up.

We, of course, encourage you to use your favorite Hero Arts products. But any and all entries are eligible for consideration. We really care most about you bringing a little inky joy into your life. Entries must be submitted by Thursday, March 11th at 5:00pm PT to be eligible for the giveaway, and the winner will be announced when we announce our new challenge on Friday, March 12th. Scroll down below the product thumbnails to find the linkup! If you share your project on social media, we'd love if you'd use the #staycraftywithhero hashtag.

Last month we challenged you to Include a Heart, and we loved all of your heart-full creations! Thank you to everyone who created for the challenge. Our random winner is Melissa SunshineHoneyBee. She used our February Word Fancy Die on this fun shaker card.

Congratulations Melissa! Email us at info@heroarts.com with "Stay Crafty Challenge Winner" in the subject to claim your prize.

Here's to connection, creativity, inspiration, and kindness. ❤

Oh, love the coloring of the cat! I recently bought this stamp set, and haven’t used it yet. I should be getting my new purchase from Hero Arts tomorrow. I should use those to somehow make a gift card holder. It could be challenging from what I bought but I love this months’ theme for the challenge!
