Welcome back to my last day of Trimmings. I had a couple questions regarding what I thought trimmings are. Think of embellishing your projects with paper scraps, snippets of ribbon or lace, left over buttons, etc.. Also consider creating projects that can be used for decorating (trimming) the house for the Holidays. I hope that helps.

Today I’ve incorporated a trimming of the silk flower variety along with an inexpensive photo mat board. I’ve stamped the mat board then added some printed paper, ribbon, corrugated paper, cardstock and a stamped greeting for the holidays. This would be great gifts for parents and grandparents.

The layering of the trimmings give a nice texture to the finished project. I’m sure it will get touch a lot, so add some extra glue dots!

WOW. I truly enjoyed looking through them all. (Yep, I really did look through them ALL!)

Now for the winners…

Our Fresh Face Winner – someone who has never won a challenge before — is ScrappinBari (Linda W), with this fabulously glittery ornament featuring the tree from the Clear Design Lots of Merry set!

Now for the Digital Winner! Glitter and butterflies are a natural combo, and jillianavery8222’s hybrid card using the Heart Wings and Long Handwriting digi kits is a beautiful example. She used glitter glue on the background to add a subtle hint of sparkle:

Third Place goes to vickypgr for her super creative peeking snowman card! Drink in all the glittery details:

And the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Coming in First Place, we have a sparkling masterpiece by Trace44. She incorporated bunches of glittery goodness on her card, including the glitter-on-acetate technique from the video!

Don’t go away, because we couldn’t stop there — here are some Honorable Mentions that I just had to share, starting with this super creative apple Christmas tree with glittered snowflake ornaments by mabelscrap — too clever!

Next, there’s this beautiful old fashioned Christmas collage piece that nancyljk created to honor her mother’s creativity. I love how she used recycled cards from last year, felt, Poinsettia Art Flowers, the Clear Design Build Your Own, Old Letter Writing and Brocade Cling stamps, and of course — glitter!

Say that ten times fast… I’m back with some EASY ornament ideas that you can make with your Hero Arts accessories. I’ve had these ideas in my head for awhile and the time has come to show you.

This first ornament uses the Poinsettia Flowers (about 1 1/2 packs) on a 3″ paper ring that I’ve cut from cardstock. I’ve folded the flowers in half, then in half again and attached them to the ring with glue dots. I also stuck in some felt greens and poinsettia.

Supplies

Poinsettia Flowers

Felt Poinsettias

Silver Metal Decor

Other: Ribbon, String, 3″ paper ring (cut from Silhouette or use punches), Glue Dots

This next card uses a clear tag that I’ve cut about 3/4″ off the bottom, then stamped the Flourish Background with White StazOn ink…I added the buttons with Glue Dots. So fun and sparkly!

Hi Everyone, welcome back! I’m blogging from California as we are having meetings with my friends and co workers at Hero! I’m in the Christmas spirit, so this week I thought it would be fun to use “Trimmings” as my theme for the entire week. Each day I’ll bring some holiday ideas for you using various types of trimmings.

Today I’m working with small scraps and trimmings that would otherwise be thrown away. By using some of my leftover papers with smaller stamp images (and a bit of sewing) I’ve come up with some holiday cards that you can make in a snap.

Supplies

Decorate Your Own

Holiday Sayings

Chocolates and Blueberries Chalk Queue

Pumpkin Patch Chalk Queue

Memories Colonial Blue

White Notecards

Neutral Buttons

Other: Scraps of cardstock (Basic Grey, The Paper Company), hemp string, sewing supplies

Here’s another variation using similar scraps, stamp images but this time I’ve used a bit of ribbon. Try turning your card vertical to get a whole different look!

Supplies

Decorate Your Own

Holiday Sayings

Soft Sand Ink

Pumpkin Patch Chalk Queue

Memories Colonial Blue

White Notecards

Star Gems

Other: Scraps of cardstock (Basic Grey, The Paper Company), hemp string, sewing supplies

Now for our weekly challenge! Create a card, layout, or project that uses an idea for Trimmings, then add it to the Hero Arts Flickr group by 11:59pm PST on Sunday, November 22nd. All entries should be tagged with the word trimming. Please include at least one Hero Arts stamp or digital element on your creations. By entering, you could win a shopping spree of your choice of Hero Arts products from the Hero Arts Online Store! (Shipping charges apply.) Winners will also receive a 2009 Hero Arts catalog, sent separately. The prize amounts are as follows:

Fresh Face Winner (someone who has not yet won a contest): $50

Digital Winner (create something using a Hero Arts Digital Kit): $50

1st Place: $50

2nd Place: $25

3rd Place: $15

Think of TRIMMING loosely, consider using scraps of ribbon, paper, lace, dried or silk flowers and accessories. You could even create items to decorate (trim) the house for the holidays. I’ll be back tomorrow with some pretty ornaments (using accessories) for the tree. See you then! :o)
