Hang it up

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

It’s day three of our Glue Arts week! Today’s project and video will show you how to make a cute little fabric ornament using this week’s featured stamp, Sparkle Tree.

I told you before I LOVE all things fabric. So, I dug out some unbleached muslin and got to work. See that Lace Ribbon? I attached it to the ornament using the Glue Arts Fabric Bond Cartridge in the Glue Glider Pro -  just heat with an iron for a permanent bond! Bedazzle your ornament with any of our gems, glitters, etc. and voila! Another creative gift from the heart!

Want to see how I did it?  Here’s a video with a quick step by step.  I also included a look at how one of my favorite tools, the Glue Arts Glue Glider, works.

Before you go, make sure and stop by the Glue Arts blog to see what their talented designers have cooked up using Hero Arts stamps!

Thanks for stopping by today. We’ll be back tomorrow with some happy news - monthly contest winners!

Watch it Wednesday: Inking Ribbon

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

heromayartsbanner500

Hi everyone! We’re back with more May Arts ribbon inspiration! Wednesdays are one of our favorite days around here, and today I’m excited that Jennifer’s here with another of her fabulous video tutorials. Today she’s showing a creative technique for altering ribbon that you’re going to love — watch below for some great tips and tricks!

The richness of the inking and the variations of color are just gorgeous…

See that spool of white silk ribbon up there in the photo? It’s a blank slate! Of course it’s lovely on its own, but imagine all the ways you could customize it to suit your projects. Color it with markers…paint it with watercolors…stamp on it…spritz it with Glimmer Mist or Perfect Pearls + water…add dots of Stickles to it…or ink it up as Jennifer’s done today. The sky’s the limit — just play and have fun!

I wonder what the May Arts designers are up to today. A visit to their blog is in order…can’t wait to see! They’ve shared so many great projects already this week that have me thinking “outside the card!”

Oh and a reminder: Any comments left on this week’s projects (including today’s) give you a chance to win a fabulous prize pack including three spools of May Arts ribbon and our Stamp of the Week. Check it out at the bottom of yesterday’s post!

Thanks for spending part of your day with us! See you back here tomorrow for a special Social Club post, then again on Friday with more fun with May Arts!

Krafty Gift Bag

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Today I am so excited to share a project and video from Designer Team member Kandis Smith. This is her debut video with Hero Arts and she did a wonderful job!

She decorated a plain orange gift bag with stamps, paper and embellishments to create an adorable Halloween bag. (Perfect for the technique portion of our September contest!) I love the little Glossy Accent dew drops and the way they look on the kraft paper…such a fun little detail!  Check out her video for tips and instructions on how to create your own custom gift bag.

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Hello and welcome to day three of the Hostesses takeover of the Hero Arts blog. This has been fun week already with lots of eye candy for you to feast your eyes on and more to come.

Today, I bring a surprise for you all, I have created a layout for this month’s theme and wait for it…I have also created a video on how I put this layout together. I did however after producing the video tweaked my layout a little, adding a couple more elements to make the whole page come together.

So sit back and enjoy the video! (LOL, I was very nervous creating this video, but I suppose the more videos I do in the future the more I will become better at this process).

Before I share some awesome projects from the Luminarte design team, I wanted to let you know that I created a video showing how I use Twinkling H2Os to stamp. For more information on the projects, please visit the Creative Imaginations (Luminarte) blog.

And here is a peek of my projects shown in the video - there are three cards! Remember, you can see the whole project over on the Creative Imaginations (Luminarte) blog.

Now it’s time from some amazing projects from Luminarte design team member, Tanisha Long. I am LOVING this background she created by using the whole Hero Arts PolyClear set! Tanisha shared some tips, too:

  • Use Chestnut Brown to tone down the brightness of the Sunflower Twinkling H2Os.
  • Using all the PolyClear stamps as packaged is a great way to create interesting backgrounds.
  • When painting over embossed images, lightly wipe the image to remove the paint from the embossing so that it stands out.

And look at this lovely masterpiece by Tanisha. Wow! And, another great tip from Tanisha:

  • When adding color using H2Os to a stamp with a lot of detail, paint the area to be stamped first and then stamp the image.  This way the image will still looks sharp.

What great work!

Time for another giveaway, stampers! Just leave a comment here by Friday night and we will pick a lucky winner of a Wildflowers Twinkling H2Os set!

Fabric Flowers Live Forever!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I love keeping busy while riding in a car, riding in a plane, or watching TV… it is the multitasker in me.  So let me show you a fun way to do that.

DSC00680

DSC00682

Project by Sally Traidman.  See the complete materials and instructions.

I’ve been making these flowers for a while now.  This summer batch was made from a lightweight neutral fabric rather than fall’s felt. Any fabric will work as long as it accepts the ink.  Complete drying is important so the ink doesn’t rub off.  A quarter of a yard will make TONS of flowers.  Watch how simple it is in this video:

I love giving these away as little tokens of my love and watching the smiles on people’s faces when they receive them! So, if you leave me a comment about what you love to sew, I will pick a lucky winner to receive one of my fabric flowers. Comments must be received by Thursday August 26 at 6pm PST!

Join us tomorrow for another Social Club Thursday - will one of your cards be featured?

Watch It Wednesday: One of a Kind Cards

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Now that Christmas 2010 is almost here, it’s time to start thinking about how to ship those one-of-a-kind cards. Today’s video will show you several ways to mail embellished cards.

In today’s video, I mistakenly mentioned that I was mailing the beautiful card with a bow to Vanessa when in fact she mailed it to me for my birthday. How could I not give her credit for taking the time to make such a fantastic card. I am so sorry Vanessa!

Since I have a niece living in Dubai, I am always looking for ways to mail cards that have to go across the world and still stay in one piece. I always check with the post office if I have any “questionable bulky” envelopes then make a black and white copy of the card and write on the back if it needs extra postage. As a new card comes to mind I can check my black and white copies for cards with similar embellishments to see how much postage will be needed.

When designing a holiday card that has lots of embellishments it’s always a good idea to take several versions to the post office and find out which one has the best chance to arrive in tact. If possible embellishments should be toward the bottom of the envelope so they do not have trouble going through the canceling machines.

There are several cities that have “Christmas names”. You can send a large envelope of cards to the postmaster of that city and they will use a cute holiday postmark on the envelope of your cards. Google “post offices+Christmas+Postage” and you can find cities with clever postmarks.

Here is a tip: allow plenty of time for the post office to send out your cards.

Here is a great Halloween card featuring stamps from the Jingle All the Way 2010 Catalog. Use any greeting set to create a similar background for a card.

Video time! Personalized Teacher Cards

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Hello!

I am back today with some fun personalized teacher cards. I am a big fan of teachers… especially my son’s. His favorite teacher is Ms. Noran and I try to do lots of thoughtful things for her so she knows how much she is appreciated. I decided to kick off the school year with a present for her - a set of personalized cards. They have several special touches including easy personalization done with a printer, score lines for a finished edge and shine added to the apples with Glossy Accents.

By the way… if your printer isn’t wide enough to feed an open card through, just put in the closed card. It will work!

Next, check out this nature-inspired Thanksgiving card that features new stamps from our Jingle All The Way Holiday 2010 Catalog. ALL new holiday stamps will be available for pre-order in the Hero Arts Online Store next week!
