Hi everyone! Tami here with a Mother’s Day card based on sketch #3 from our current challenge. First here’s a look at the sketch…
I stretched it horizontally and created this card for my amazing Mom…
It’s a mama butterfly and her two daughters! As you can see in the picture below, the mama butterfly has a hidden surprise — gold embossed edges. More on that in a moment.
I wanted to share a few tips on the creation of the butterfly:
- Easy blending with inks - The butterfly is shaded pink towards the center. To do this, first stamp it with Fresh Peach ink. Then clean the stamp and apply Ultra Pink ink to the center of the stamp only, blending it out slightly with your fingers at the edges. Overstamp the pink butterfly right onto the previously stamped peach one, using a stamp positioning tool for good alignment. The result is a two-toned butterfly. Easy! No special coloring skills required.
- Dimension - Die cut the butterfly using the Flower and Butterfly Frame Cut Set five times from plain white cardstock. Stack and glue them all together, adding the stamped butterfly on top. This creates a chipboard-like thickness. (I’ve seen Jennifer McGuire use this technique many times and just love the effect!)
- Gold edges - Apply Versamark ink to the edges of the dimensional butterfly. Dip into gold embossing powder and heat emboss. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference. Moms know all about that. ♥
And here’s a closer look at the Best Mom Ever set I used for the sentiment. It’s a great one to have on hand for Mother’s Day and beyond. It even comes packaged in a super cute kraft colored box tied up with a twine bow!
Thanks for stopping in for a visit. Enjoy your day!
