Sneak peeks of NEW stamps, inks, and daubers!

Hi everyone! It’s Lisa here with some 2014 Catalog sneak peeks for you! I had so much fun playing on this journal page — there’s nothing like NEW stamps, daubers and inks to get my creativity going! I thought I’d share my process with you — and the new goodies, too!

The littlest birds by Lisa Spangler for Hero Arts

I started out by making a background with the new Tiny Flags background stamp (S5581). I inked the top part in our existing Soft Yellow ink, and the lower portion in new Soft Vanilla Shadow Ink (AF275). Love this color so much! It kinda reminds me of vanilla pudding — YUM!

Next I stamped some coordinating triangles from the already released Stamp And Build set. I used Mint Julep, Charcoal, and NEW Dark Quartz Mid-tone (AF260)! This color is a kind of dark blush — so on trend right now.

New "Dark Quartz" ink from Hero Arts

Isn’t Dark Quartz just gorgeous? It has a little more brown to it than existing Fresh Peach. Just love! And love how these colors overlap to make new ones. Mid-tone inks just rock.

Next I reached for the new wood Bird (D5890). I have a feeling I’ll be reaching for him again and again!

NEW Hero Arts 2014 Catalog Bird (D5890) Stamp

I used trusty Black ink to stamp Bird on the Tiny Flag background, then colored around him with NEW PASTEL — yes I said PASTEL daubers! Oh my these are so cool. They are kinda opaque like the White Dauber, but they have these lovely pastel shades. Look how they made a kind of resist over the triangle background:

I used Pastel Peach (AD027), Pastel Yellow (AD028), Pastel Mint (AD030) and Pastel Blue (AD031). They blend together so well! There are six new pastel daubers in all. (In case you were wondering, not shown are Pastel Pink (AD026) and Pastel Green (AD029).) You can tell that these are just the prototype daubers since they don’t have the official labels on them ha ha.

And for fans of happy bright colors, never fear, we’ve got some new bright daubers in store for you! You’ll just have to wait and see. :)

After the daubers had dried, I drew some lines around the birdie to really make him pop! I used pencil first and then a black pen. Kinda loving all the different tones of black and gray on this page.

Next I grabbed the current Musical Background, inked it with Soft Granite, and stamped it without mounting it to an acrylic block here and there over the triangle background. I did this by curving the stamp and placing it where I wanted it to go, then giving it a little press with my fingers. I’ve found this method to work great when working on a journal page!

Then tore a sheet from on old field guide, brushed on a little Charcoal dauber, then broke out my typewriter to add a quote from one of my favorite songs. I was actually singing this song the whole time I was working on the page.

I finished it off by using a brush to splatter some Charcoal dauber here and there. And that was that!

Thanks so much for joining me today, and hope you enjoyed these peeks!  We’ll be revealing the whole catalog on December 17th, but until then stay tuned for more peeks! Annnnd, we’ll have a list of local stores participating in the Catalog Debut soon! Many stores placed their orders over the Thanksgiving weekend and we’re hard at work putting everything together.

So did any of the new daubers, inks or stamps catch your eye today? I’d love to hear what you think!

Have a great week,

___lisa1
