Hooray! Hooray! It’s World Card Making Day! And I’m here hopping along with Operation Write Home for their annual World Card Making Day bloghop! Are you familiar with Operation Write Home? It’s a wonderful organization whose mission is to support our nation’s armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as “AnyHero” cards of gratitude to encourage them. I know someone personally who received OWH cards to use when he was stationed overseas. He’s an old high school friend, and when we reconnected via Facebook and he found out I was a card maker, right away he told me about how special that experience was for him. And it’s people like you and me, sending in our handstamped cards, that keeps OWH ticking!
The theme for this year’s hop is thank you cards. I chose my favorite thank you sentiment from one of our OWH stamps sets - Year Round Sentiments. Another tidbit you may not be aware of - Hero Arts has partnered with Operation Write Home. We have a selection of stamps which benefit Operation Write Home, with 25% of the profits from the sale of these sets donated. You can check them out right here. I created the image panel by adding dauber ink to a trimmed piece of canvas. I love how the dauber ink seeped into the canvas and blended.
Operation Write Home also has a whole selection of sketches on their site that can inspire your card making activities! They encouraged us to work with their sketches for this hop - I chose Sketch #144 for my card.
Before I go - a hop is more fun with there are prizes involved, don’t you think? One lucky commenter will win their choice of three of our Operation Write Home stamp sets! Just leave a comment on this post by Sunday, October 6 at midnight, and we’ll announce the winner next week.
Now that you’re excited to make cards to send in to Operation Write Home, be sure to take a look at their guidelines if you’ve never done it before.
Happy World Card Making Day!
