Hello and Happy October, everyone! Today marks the start of a brand new contest here at Hero Arts…who’s ready for some holiday cardmaking!?
This month’s categories include Holiday Cards, a Sketch Challenge and Holiday Die Cutting. You can pick one, two, or all three of these topics! Not yet in the mood for holiday stamping? Sketch challenge submissions can be any theme, so the creative possibilities are wide open!
All of the details for the October challenge are just a click away — check it out here on the information page! We hope you have fun with it and we look forward to seeing your fabulous creations this month!
So, for today’s project I slipped into a frosty frame of mind, gathered some of my favorite new holiday stamps, and created this one layer card:
At first glance it might look like the Snow Dots background was stamped with white ink but it’s actually water stamping — a fun technique I learned in one of Jennifer McGuire’s classes a few years ago. It’s very easy to do. Heavily ink a piece of white cardstock with a variety of Distress Inks, then mist your background stamp with water and stamp it onto the inked piece. The water and Distress Inks make magic when they come together and you get a cool ghost effect.
In the close-up above, the snowflakes were stamped with white pigment ink. So this card actually has three levels of “white effect” stamping, all achieved in different ways. From most subtle to most prominent:
- Water on Distress Inks (background)
- White pigment ink (snowflakes and ampersand)
- White heat embossing (greeting)
Thanks so much for stopping by today…I hope you have a great week!
