Creating Layers with Masking
Hello stampers! Today I have one more masking technique to share with you so let’s get started.
Masking is a great way to cut down on your card’s layers. And it can be especially helpful if you want to mail your card without extra postage. On the card below I used three different stamps as well as some ink sponging to create this one-layered scene. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love layers, but there was something really satisfying about making this card which only contains one layer mounted on my card base.

To start off I masked off a 1/2″ border all way around a piece of white cardstock…this gives the illusion of another layer. Then I sponged ink inside the square to create the gradient background and stamped the owl, spider and sentiment from the Happy Halloween clear stamp set. Remove the mask and ta-da…a cute little Halloween scene! :) Tip: Be sure to use a thin paper for your mask and secure it well so you get a nice crisp, clean border.
Since we’ve kicked off the autumn theme now, we have some new festive blinkie and badge icons for you. Aren’t they just so cute and clever! Be sure to grab one off the sidebar to spruce up your blog. You never know when we’ll be doing a random blinkie giveaway so be sure to let us know you added one by posting a link here in the comments, on our Facebook page, or even send us a message on Twitter!

And finally, feast your eyes on some Idea Friday inspiration! These cute little tags could be attached to a wrapped gift or gift bag (think this month’s challenge!) or they could be added to the front of a notecard.

Thanks for joining me this week…I hope you have been inspired to try some masking on your cards.
Have a great weekend and come back on Monday for a fun week with Lisa!

I really love the card. It reminds me of techniques I used long ago and forgotten about. It has inspired me to go back to these basic wonderful effects. Halloween is the perfect time to bring them out again. Thank You!!
P.S. I don’t understand the badge thing.

This is amazing! I really haven’t done masking before and the one time I did, I messed it up badly. So thanks for sharing and oh bye the way, I so love how you have a visual of all the products you used to create your cards/projects in the side panel. I think this is a great idea. THanks
