Hats Off to the Graduates
I don’t know about you, but I always enjoy cards with unique folds — they’re fun to make and definitely fun to receive! But I often get stuck in a rut with standard fold cards. Today I’m going to break out of that rut and share a graduation card with a special fold.
It all started with this great square petal template from Mirkwood Designs. I thought it might work well as a graduation cap, so I cut out the pattern and started playing. I stamped and clear embossed the Floral Brocade image on what would typically be considered the back side of the card. The addition of a black button and a tassel (made from embroidery floss) complete this side. Wouldn’t it look cute as a package topper?

And here’s the flip side with the four petal flaps. You fold these just like you would a cardboard box top — weave them over and under each other until everything’s secure. When the recipient opens the flaps the congratulatory message stamped inside is revealed!

After creating this black and silver version, I started thinking about other fun ways this basic design could be customized:
- Create a tassel that matches the school colors.
- Add the year of the graduation or the graduate’s name to the cap.
- Insert a gift card inside. The center portion measures 3.5″ square so it’s the perfect size.
By the way, if you’re looking for a tutorial on how to create a tassel, I found this one to be very helpful and easy to follow.
Tomorrow we’ll have another idea for the special graduates in your lives and a video too. Until then, happy stamping everyone!
