Marvelous Medallions

Hi everyone, hope you enjoyed the weekend! Did you do any stamping? I did! I’ve been busy stamping cards for Dads and Grads, and I’m so happy to be here this week to share some of what I’ve been up to!

Today I have a Father’s Day card that makes a statement with a fun stamped paper medallion. To create the medallion, I accordion folded some thin gold metallic paper. (More on that in a moment.) I combined words from different stamp sets to create the message — the word “Best” is from Mix & Match Elements, while “Dad” is from Happy Dad’s Day.  The light blue diamond patterned strip was created by stamping the Stripes stamp on the diagonal in two separate directions.

So, about that medallion…it couldn’t be easier! I took a few photos of the process to show you just how simple it is. Once you create one, you’ll be hooked. They’re so much fun to make!

medallion-steps

  1. Cut a strip of paper measuring 11″ long and 1 1/4″ wide. (Lightweight paper is recommended; most cardstocks are too thick.)
  2. Score the entire strip at 1/4″ increments and accordion fold.
  3. Bring the ends together to form a pleated circle. It will look kind of like a cupcake liner at this point. Secure ends with glue or tape.
  4. Push down to flatten into a circle. Adhere stamped circle on top, applying pressure until glue is dry. Glossy Accents works great for this and dries quickly.

Imagine creating these for birthdays too, in all sorts of fun patterns and colors. With the simple addition of a pin back, they could even be made wearable.

Speaking of birthdays, remember that’s one of our THREE contest themes for this month, along with Dads and Grads!

We’d love for you to join the May challenge and submit your projects to the Hero Arts Flickr Group for a chance to win a $50 shopping spree! Current projects should be tagged May2010B and submitted by May 27. Want more info on the contest? Just click HERE!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you tomorrow!

I love this “Best Dad” card, it’s simple but so nice. I thought I already knew how to make those medallions and I was wrong. No wonder mine weren’t turning out right. Thanks for sharing the correct, right way to do them. Those medallions can really come in handy for so many different cards.
