Some Fun Fall Colors!
Today we’re diving into our fourth and final color scheme for the week. Traditionally associated with Halloween, this one is fun and vibrant. Say hello to Orange, Lime, Purple, and Black…
We have three colorful cards from the Web Artists today so let’s get to it!
First up is Laura Griffin with a pair of cute Halloween cards using this palette. Here’s Laura with more: “”I love the classic Halloween color combination of orange, purple, green and black. When I saw these new individual Hero Arts Halloween images, I couldn’t wait to use them on a tiled square card. After stamping each image, you can cut or punch them out and color in with markers. (Don’t you just love that happy lil’ Frankenstein image?!) Then, take a colored pencil and sketch around each square lightly in a contrasting color. You can go back with Gamsol afterwards to blend. The colors in this design are very easy to swap out as shown here, so you can stamp off several sets of images at once and create a few cards for your stash.”
Supplies:
- Stamp It: Halloween
- Fall Mixed, Summer Mixed Notecards
- Art Flowers Summer
- Other: Square Nestabilities (Spellbinders), orange and green Copic markers, purple and orange Prismacolor pencils with Gamsol, black and white cardstock, black ink, black and orange ribbon
A tip from Laura: Add colored pencil lightly to the top of your art flowers to give them more dimension.
Next, take a look at Kandis Smith’s super fun card featuring the new Silly Bat and matching message. Her whimsical coloring of the bat contributes to the playful look of the card, I just love it! Clearly, the little guy is trying to look menacing — I’m not sure he’s fooling anyone! ;) Kandis shares, “Halloween is my favorite holiday, so making cards with spiders and bats is always a treat! Sticking with the purple, orange, green, and black color combination I was able to make the card feel festive right away, before I even stamped my images. Color your stamped images in the same tones to make it coordinate. Use this combination to make your holiday cardmaking a breeze!”
Supplies:
- Carving Pumpkins
- Silly Bat
- Clear Design: Owl-oween
- Memories Black Ink
- Ranger Diamond Stickles
- Lime, Summer Mixed, Neutral Mixed Notecards
- Card Buttons Spring
- Other: colored pencils, machine stitching, photo corners, ribbon, scallop scissors
Tips from Kandis: Stamp your bat on the back of a notecard (the white side), color, and cut out. Cover wings with glitter and then adhere to card. Bend wings up toward you to give the card a 3D effect!
And to wrap things up, Barbara Hache shows how today’s palette can even be used in a non-Halloween way! She designed a great Thanksgiving card that goes beyond traditional Thanksgiving colors. Barbara says, “I decided to use the colors orange, green, purple and black for a non-traditional Thanksgiving card although this could be used as a general fall card as well. The colors are bright and fun! Clear stamp sets make it so easy to create coordinated themed cards. I love having background images, sentiments and focal images altogether in one set.”
Supplies:
- Clear Design: Happy Thanksgiving
- Cream, Sunshine Mixed Notecards
- Memories Black Ink
- Other: purple and black cardstock, slit punch (Stampin Up!), purple ribbon, black polka dot ribbon, Twinkling H2O’s, Lime VersaColor Ink
A Tip from Barbara: Any image can make a great background when stamped repeatedly. I used a border stamp to create my background. It was so easy to line up because the stamps are clear.
Thanks for the inspiration Laura, Kandis and Barbara!
Before I go, here’s another glimpse of the four color combos from the week (click for a larger view), and HERE are the challenge details.
