More Monochromatic Inspiration!
It’s Friday and the Web Artists have cooked up three more fabulous monochromatic projects for you today — more on those in just a moment!
First, we wanted to say a big “thank you” for taking the time to send your feedback on the new Hero Arts website and store over the course of the past week. Each and every comment is appreciated, and we love hearing your thoughts! It allows us to make the website the best it can be. So thank you all!

Since the launch of our new store, we have had some inquiries about the availability of certain products. For instance, on Tuesday when we gave away our Pool prize pack, some wondered if the Pool notecards (and other notecards) had been discontinued. We are happy to report that they have not been discontinued! They continue to be available through local and online retailers.
There are two ways to get Hero Arts products:
- Hero Arts Online Store
Visit the new and completely revamped Hero Arts Online Store! We feature many of the newest releases from 2009 and will add each new product as it is released. Since fulfillment is done by our retail stores, you get it fast, and can even pick-up at a store near you. Start shopping now! - Retail Stores
Prefer to visit a store, and see the entire line of Hero Arts products? We have nearly 1,000 stores nationally, as well as outlets all over the world, and you will find them all listed in our Store Locator. Find a store now!
Some of you have asked about Christmas stamps already, so we wanted to let you know that ALL of the stamps in the 2008-2009 Winter catalog are still available at Hero Arts Retail Stores! And be sure to visit the blog next week, as we’ll have some sneak peeks for you!
Also! Did you know that we’re now offering Hero Arts gemstones and pearls in the Online Store? That’s right — just click HERE to view the rainbow of gems and HERE for the lovely collection of pearls! In honor of our newest addition to the store, all of today’s monochromatic cards will feature gemstones or pearls.
Let’s start with a fresh, sweet, and simply perfect pear card designed by Laura Griffin. Monochromatic schemes lend themselves well to the clean and simple look, as Laura shows here. She shares, “In this simple monochromatic card, I used notecards, markers and ink in varying shades of green. Finish off your card by using a few 2mm Hero gemstones. They work perfect here to add subtle bling to the pear.”
Supplies:
- Sparkle Clear: Designer Fruit
- ClearDesign: Birthday Messages
- 2mm Gemstones
- Garden Notecards
- Other: scalloped rectangle dies (Nestabilities), green markers for faux stitching and coloring in pear, black ink, foam dots
Tips from Laura:
- Don’t have a sewing machine? You can create a faux stitched border by connecting dots with a thin dark marker.
- Add dimension to a simple card by lifting the first two layers off the card with foam dots.
- Use monochromatic colors for a classic, clean look.
Now for a beautifully colored card from Web Artist Jacki Jones, who is a master of colored pencil techniques. Here she shows how monochromatic coloring can be just as stunning as multi-color effects. The sparkling red gemstones she added perfectly accentuate the stamping here…not too much, not too little…just right!
Supplies:
- Clear Design: A Million Thanks
- Blush Notecards
- Memories Ruby Ink
- Memories Black Ink
- Red Gems
- Other: white cardstock, ribbon, colored pencils
Tips from Jacki:
- Don’t be afraid to use pencils on colored paper or cardstock. You can incorporate the background color into your design.
- Adding white pencil to highlight is more effective the darker the background.
And finally, feast your eyes on this gorgeous creation from Kelly Rasmussen – so very pretty in pink! Kelly says, “I love how the pink pearls have such a dainty look to them. I thought they would be perfect to line up around the edge of a mini scalloped-shaped card. The flower is made from a piece of fabric that I stamped on and cut out with a flower die.”
Supplies:
- Clear Design: Birthday Frame and Messages
- Heart Flourish
- Artistic Windows
- Blossom Notecards
- Long Notecards Natural
- Soft Blossom Ink Pad
- VersaMark
- Clear Embossing Powder
- Pale Pink Accent Pearls
- Other: scalloped square die (Nestabilities,) flower dies (Cuttlebug), corner rounder (EK Success), button (Basic Grey), Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, fabric, thread, pop dots
A Tip from Kelly:
- Using VersaMark ink with clear embossing powder works perfectly to add another shade of color to a monochromatic card.
That wraps up our monochromatic projects for today — many thanks to Laura, Jacki and Kelly!
Hope you all are having fun with the challenge! So many great single color cards are popping up over in the Flickr Group! As a reminder, you have until Sunday, July 26 to submit your creations — more details HERE!
Happy stamping everyone!
