Watch It Wednesday with Complementary Colors
Welcome back to Watch it Wednesday! I’ve got a lot planned for today so let’s get to it.
Today’s color combination is purple and yellow. These are two unlikely matches that I feel we don’t see enough of. They remind me of Spring and Easter, but I feel they are suited for everyday cards. Did you know that painters of the Renaissance period used this combination because of their regal qualities?
First up today is a sweet layout by the lovely and talented Kandis Smith! Her colors are perfect for a newborn baby girl! I love how she incorporated a pinker tone of purple in with mix. Beautiful!

Supplies:
- Dots and Flowers
- Clear Design Baby
- CL290 Clear Design Printed Flowers
- Smooth Clear Gemstones
- CH165 Art Flowers White
- CH151 Art Flowers Spring
- Card Buttons Spring
- Soft Lilac
- Misty Meadow Chalk Queue
- Other: Circle punches and cardstock
I played with this scrumptious combination making some fun cards too. But first, here’s my video on tying ribbon and finishing touches.
Finishing Touches and Tying Ribbon
Here are the finished cards. This first one uses a hint of yellow with my purple, I love this combination with the splash of brown. I’m thinking this might be my favorite yet this week!

Gorgeous cards!! I love both of them, and the LO by Kandis is really just super super sweet. Such a precious photo. And BIG THANKS for your great video!! I was so excited when I read that you were going to show us how you do your bows!
Hooray, thanks for the tips, esp about using embroidery floss to tie it together!

Hi Shari,
I love yellow and purple, and I agree with you, they should be used more often! Great video, too!
Thanks for sharing!
Suzanne
I love these colours, so pretty. Thanks too for the video. I really struggle with bows. The tip on how to create the double bow was especially useful. BTW I use the dense foam that the ‘posh’ brads come on as mini pricking mats.
