Take Two with Complementary Colors
Hello and welcome back to my week of Complementary Colors. Today I bring you Blue and Orange. This dynamic duo really contrasts with one another making them spectacular. They remind me of summer, the beach, very calming even though they are a mix of cool (Blue) and warm (Orange).
Tip: Complementary colors work well when mixing papers and cardstocks, not so much with paint or ink. If you were to stamp a blue over an orange the area where they overlap will become a neutral or brown tone.
I invited my friend and talented scrapbooker Vicki Boutin to join me today. She created this fantastic bright and cheerful layout. It is just screaming “Lazy Days of Summer”! I love all the details she created with the stars.

I made a card with bright tones of Blue and Orange. Color pencils worked out great to get maximum coverage on the image. I added a splash of green to highlight the theme.

Supplies:
- ClearDesign Friendship (6×8)
- ClearDesign Everyday Sayings
- Memories Black Dye ink
- White Notecards
- Summer Felt Flowers
- Midnight Black Accent Pearls
- Other: Scallop punch, Bo Bunny orange dot paper, color pencils, Cuttle Bug embossing folder
For this next card I decided to use more muted shades of the combination. Soft Shadow inks work beautifully for this scheme. I thought this would make a cute birth announcement or baby shower invitation.

Great inspiration, as always! Such a fun LO, love the felt flower adorning the owl, and I always love your ribbons! I used to loathe the blue and orange combo (my jr high colors… *blech* as gym clothes, in my opinion! — despite the Bears and Illini!) But I’m really loving them here.
