Watch It Wednesday: Simplified Watercoloring + More!
Surprise! Today we not only have a video for you, but a scrapbook page and matching card too. The video is filled with ideas to simplify watercoloring on stamping. And as a bonus, the cards shown in the video will be mailed to the winners of this week’s challenge, in addition to the usual prizes!
Additional Tips:
- The image stamped on the acetate was stamped with StazOn ink and trimmed to fit the front of the notecard.
- The more water you add to paper the more it curls. The solution is to place the slightly wet paper in a heavy book overnight and it will dry flat. Put a piece of paper towel on either side so your book does not get wet.
- To tell if paper is truly dry try this: if it feels cold to the back of your hand, it is wet. Dry paper does not feel cold.
Now, for a matching scrapbook page and card. Every year I make my friend Peggy a scrapbook page for each grandchild, either from photos I took or her photos. The 8½” x 11″ size does not take up too much room for her or too much time for me. The first year I give her a page in a 1/2″ binder and decorate a single sheet to slip in the front clear cover of the binder.

Did you notice the two color name at the top? I stamped the letters in blue ink on blue paper. After cutting them out I drew a black line around each letter, to coordinate with the rest of the lettering.
Supplies:
- Clear Design Friendship
- Clear Design Pattern Alphabet
- Clear Design Woodland Creatures
- Black StazOn Ink
- Other: paper trimmer, patterned ribbon (American Crafts), blue ink, blue and rose papers, hole punch, fine point black marker, tape and glue
Instructions:
- Stamp the messages on blue paper (see the tip below for creating messages on textured paper) using a black ink pad. Create the child’s name using the Pattern alphabet and a blue ink pad. Trace around the letters with a fine black marker. Trim the messages and cut around the stamped letters.
- Add bits of ribbon to each message using a different style of attaching the ribbon on each message. Mount the messages on rose paper.
- Attach all the elements to an 8 1/2″ x 11″ dark blue paper.
Here is a tip for stamping words on Bazzill or other lightly textured papers: Rub a bone folder or craft stick across the area of paper you will be stamping. This flattens the texture just enough so your words have clean lines. If there are still some areas that are not inked, use a fine black marker to complete the words. Peggy has the most adorable grandson so I made her some notecards to match the scrapbook page.
The inside message “a lot” is perfect for grandmothers.
Supplies:
- Clear Design Friendship
- Happy Uppercase Alphabet
- Black StazOn Ink
- Hyacinth Notecards
- Other: paper trimmer, glue, rose cardstock, decorative ribbon (American Crafts), tape
Instructions:
- Trim a photo to fit the front of a notecard and mount on a piece of rose cardstock. Add ribbon to diagonal corners, securing the ribbon to the back with tape.
- Stamp a message on the front of the card in black ink and the rest of the message on the inside.
- Attach the photo.
Now, how about a stamp giveaway to brighten the day? We have three of the Garden Roses stamps shown in the video to give away. To enter to win, simply leave a comment on this post and tell me how you envision coloring this image (technique, color, anything!)

I will announce the three random winners on Friday morning. Good luck!
Pssst…the Garden Roses stamp has been added as a Featured Product in the Hero Arts Online Store right here. It’s perfect for Spring and Mother’s Day, as well as all occasion “thinking of you” type cards.

Love your ideas! I would color those flowers PINK, and a nice watercolor approach would be lovely.

Hi,
This is a great stamp to use chalks to color and then stamp with black once you finished coloring with the chalks. the first impression has to be made with a light color for smearing the chalk.
If I am not making a lot of sense, feel free to contact me.
Great video, lots of little tips to get our creative juices going. Thank you, Rosie

I would stamp on acetate and color (from the backside) with alcohol inks. Then I would punch a circular window on the front of the card and place the acetate behind it so it would look like a stained glass window.

Thankyou for somemore fabulous watercolouring tips:)
I also colour my markers onto a piece of plastic or the cover of the packet and grab colour that way - fun blending colours for different shades tat way too.
Have a lovely day

As to my idea, I will grab the scallop puncher to punch out the plastic the shrink plastic. I will stamp on top of the plastic with the Stazon golden color and later apply the permanent ink to color the flowers and leaves and vase. Heat the plastic and it definitely look cute as little embelishment for part of scrapbooking with collection of Hero Art 2009.
Thanks for the great chance to win this pretty stamp!

Great watercolor tutorial. Thank you.

I would stamp with stazon and water color; the roses would be yellow w/shading and the leaves would be 2green shades with some yellow in them. I would tie a ribbon on the vase neck using 1/8 ” ribbon and clear glaze on the vase itself.
The reason for yellow is that my MOM and bestfriend love YELLOW. Thank you.
