Watch It Wednesday
It is about time for Peter Cottontail to come hopping down the bunny trail, so today I’ll be showing you how to use your stamps to create some unique decoupage eggs. These eggs require no refrigeration and can be hidden the night before without fear of your dogs and cats having a banquet while you sleep.
I have used plastic eggs (available at most craft stores) and coordinating tissue papers and inks to cover the eggs in patterns or messages. For variety, I used a combination of small and medium sized images. Here’s a video to take you through the process step-by-step…
The eggs shown at the beginning of the video can be made in a snap. The large striped egg was simply decorated with paper flowers, gemstones and a tag stamped with the new Happy Easter message. These can also be used as place cards for your holiday table. The smaller green striped egg is decorated with gemstones and a bow.
Supplies:
- Leaf Flourish
- Pop Art Designs
- Tiny Daisy
- Happy Easter Flowers
- Black and White Flowers
- Three Swirly Flourishes
- Gems
- Art Flowers
- Other: plastic eggs, StazOn ink (mustard, violet, brown), pigment ink (turquoise, orange, lilac), tissue paper (yellow, blue, pink), Mod Podge gloss-lustre, foam paintbrush, ribbon
Instructions:
- Stamp overlapping images in different colors of ink on the tissue paper. After the paper has dried tear in small pieces.
- Using a small foam brush cover an area of the egg with Mod Podge, add the pieces of torn paper and finish with an additional coat of Mod Podge. Continue covering the egg with overlapping papers and Mod Podge.
- I allow at least two hours for the eggs to dry completely. Place on a baking rack to dry and be sure to rinse the foam brush when finished.
Tips:
- Be sure to glue both pieces of the egg together before adding the decoupage.
- Cover the tissue paper completely with designs, overlapping colors.
- If you use Styrofoam eggs, brush on an undercoat of Mod Podge before adding the tissue paper; otherwise you will have tiny pieces of Styrofoam on the brush and the surface of the finished eggs.
Now for some added “egg-citement”, how about a giveaway? Tell me…what stamps would you like the Easter bunny to leave you in your basket? Just leave your wish (by commenting on this post before 11:59pm PST on Thursday, March 5) for a chance to win one of three Brightening My Day stamps. I used this sunny message stamp on one of Monday’s cards.
I’ll announce the three winners on Friday. Good luck!

I love the egg project! Even though my daughter’s only 20 months old, this would be great as she gets older!
As for the Easter Bunny… I wish I could have the Big Candles set, and the Kanji poem….among many others. But those are my top two.

Very, very cute idea with the eggs! I will definitely give that one a try and I’m hopeful I can get both a bag of eggs AND the tissue paper at my local dollar store. Such an affordable and “do-able” project! Thank you for sharing it!

I would love the easter bunny to put the pattern bunny & the pattern egg in my easter basket! I could really make some cute cards with the two of them. Plus if the bunny happens to hop past the woodland critters I wouldn’t mind him droping them off in my basket as well. Loved the eggs!

I wish the Easter Bunny brought me stamps! I would LOVE to get Designer Fruits, Four Dolls, and All Occasion Messages.

There are so many good ones it is hard to know; Live Simply (I could do a lot with a tree stamp), So Sweet, Glamorous (love those dresses), Heartfelt Messages, I love background stamps like Old Writing and Design Block Flourish. But I think my favorite is Card Messages. I guess the Easter Bunny has a lot of work to do, especially since he usually only leaves a carton of chocolate marshmallow eggs with my mom. At least now I have an idea of the ones to look for next time I go to Archivers.

Bunnies bearing gifts? YES!!! I will take any and all stamps. I don’t have very many and it seems the ones that I do have live next door at my sisters. So I will take all that I can get. :+)
