Motivating you with Pockets!

Welcome back to the Hero Blog.

How is everyone’s winter going?  We’re a little packed in with snow here in Illinois, so it’s a perfect time to stamp!

I love having this blog as it gives me a chance to go in depth on some of my favorite techniques. About a year ago, I did an article on Pocket Cards. They were so much fun to create. I decided to revisit this idea and bring it to you with new stamps, more ideas plus a video or two.  Each day this week I’ll show you different ways to make fun spots to hide goodies and paper treasures.

Today I’m focusing on creating pockets on the front of cards.  By layering papers it’s so easy to create a place to slide in a personal note, a gift card or even a photo.  I like to use my sewing machine when making pocket cards, it make the process quick plus it’s very effective.  If you don’t have a machine, you can always use a thin line of paper glue, then poke hole with a pin for faux stitching. Here’s a few examples I’ve made with some of our fabulous new 2009 stamps.

Cut stamped paper in a curve and affix it to a card.  Machine stitch to secure.

Try adding another cut curve for extra journaling.

Stamp a small shadow image and stitch in place for a little notecard.

Try mounting a stamped shadow image with thin strips of foam tape (apply to the sides and bottom).

And for a little more inspiration, click here to take a peek of a beautiful card that our Jennifer did for the 2009 catalog. I love how she used the scallop border for the opening of the pocket. So Fantastic!

Okay, are you ready? This week’s challenge is to include Pockets on your projects. Please use at least one Hero Arts stamp and load your creations into the Hero Arts Flickr pool by Sunday, January 18th at 11:59pm PST. Tag your submissions with the word “Pockets” and have fun creating! Here are the prizes…

I love these cards. They look so beautiful and the colors you always chose for your cards are so great. You need to teach us all how you go about designing a card and picking the colors you use.
