It’s video time… and another fun giveaway!
Hello, stampers. Welcome to video day for our Sketch Challenge Week with BasicGrey. Kelly Goree and I are having such fun with these sketches. I hope you are all able to enter the challenge by Sunday - there are a lot of prizes! (For more info, click HERE.)
For today’s projects, Kelly and I decided to both use my favorite Hero Arts set, ClearDesign Birds and Branches, along with BasicGrey’s best line (in my opinion!), Urban Prairie.
And, Becky Fleck from PageMaps offered to make two sketches exclusively for us to use today. Isn’t that fabulous!? Thanks, Becky! Let’s start with the card sketch.
I decided to do a video to go along with this card. It shows how to do a slider card, how to emboss on transparency and how to stamp shadows.
Supplies:
- Hero Arts ClearDesign Birds and Branches
- Hero Arts Scroll Frame and Messages (NEW)
- Hero Arts White Embossing Powder
- Hero Arts White and Acetate (for transparency piece) Notecards
- White Memories Ink, Versamark and Colorbox Chalk Ink
- BasicGrey Urban Prairie paper and border sticker
- Other: Ranger Liquid Pearls, Creative Impressions silk ribbon, punches, Crop-a-dile
And for a little extra fun, I asked Lisa Spangler to play along today using BG, this sketch and a NEW Hero stamp. I know Urban Prairie is a favorite line of hers! Here is the absolutely adorable card she made for her aunt based on this same sketch. Lisa said, “Birthdays near Christmastime often get lost in the sea of holiday cards. The BG Urban Prairie really helps make your card stand out and feel like spring! I love how BG paper packs come with solid color sheets — they are perfect for stamping on and cutting out images, like the doll’s dress.”

And it’s giveaway time! (Remember you still have time to enter yesterday’s giveaway, too - click HERE.) F&W Media was kind enough to donate a copy of Becky Fleck’s PageMaps Book. It is full of great sketches to get you creating… even for cardmaking. Just leave a comment here by Friday at 11:59pmPST telling us if you usually use sketches, make your own or just create as you go. We will pick a random winner of this book…
Me? I create my own sketches and keep them in a binder. I always start a card or page with one of these sketches, but almost always change paths when creating. But it sure does help me get started! I know Kelly loves sketches, too.
Oh, and I wanted to add a shout out to our Lisa… HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Have a great one.
Thanks again for stopping by!

I love to use sketches, it’s so easy to make a bunch of layouts.
Hero Arts and Basic Grey is a great combo!

I usually go with my flow until I came across Becky’s website earlier this year. Her sketches are inspiring and whimsical and I love them. I scrap at least one of her sketches per month in my layouts!

I tend to do both, follow sketches, or just create as I go along. I find I follow sketches when I am lacking spontaneous creation.

I love sketches (especially PageMaps!). They always get my creative juices flowing!

I love to use sketches and use them about 75% of the time when I scrapbook. All of the sketches and ideas have been so wonderful this week!

i have never used a sketch before, but i think it would certainly increase my productivity and help me be more efficient in my creating process. i think i “need” a copy of pagemaps!
Marilyn
I mostly just create as I go, but I have been known to use sketches to get back into the groove, or for inspiration! I don’t know if I could ever make a sketch, I am not that great at designing, just playing around, lol!

Thanks for sharing the video. I LOVE the details of this card. I appreciate having sketchs to work from too.
