Motivation Mondays: Its going to be a colorful week!

Back in August I hosted a week of all things color here at the Hero Arts blog. It was so much fun creating the projects and teaching you a bit about color theory and color schemes. Hero Arts received many requests for another week of color… specifically introducing you to some unexpected and somewhat CHALLENGING color palettes to expand your horizons. I turned to a favourite website of mine for funky and fresh color combos: www.kuler.adobe.com – if you haven’t visited this site, go and check it out. You will love the amazing combinations they offer on a daily basis.

Each day this week, myself along with two other designers will be challenged to use one specific color palette for our project. The rules are simply that we draw inspiration from the color swatches provided, and that we try and incorporate most or all of these colors into our project. We hope we can show you how we each interpret and used the color palette in a different way and we hope we can inspire you to give these and other unique color schemes a try.

Here is the color palette for today…don’t you just love it?

Dark teal blue, spring green, maize yellow, orange, dark burgundy

First up is a card I made using these dynamic colors. I really was inspired by this color scheme. My favourite color (green) accompanied by so many delicious colors made this a lot of fun to work with. The colors made me think of sunshine and flowers so I went with that as my “starting point” of inspiration in my card. I added a little bit of sparkle with Hero Arts self-adhesive gemstones.

Next, we have a wonderful owl card by Laura Griffin. She says, “Sometimes, it can be overwhelming getting started on a project when you have every color in the world available to you. That’s why I enjoy working with color schemes, either using a photo from a favorite catalog as inspiration; or in this case, a fun color combo from Leslie. These five colors remind me of what has been going on outdoors for the last two weeks. I live in Texas, and all of the trees have been shifting from green to different shades of yellow, orange & reddish-brown. I knew they would work great with a nature theme, and I chose owls because I can’t resist them these days!”

Lastly, Robyn Werlich created this gorgeous layout! She is so talented and always has me in awe over the designs she creates. Here is what Robyn had to say about her project: “At first I thought that this color scheme would be challenging, but once I pulled the right colors and sat down to create…I had so much fun! By keeping to the right proportions of each color, I think they made a great combination that really made a layout that pops! By adding stamping and some clear embossing, you can really make any color combo work to your style!”

Love the color challenges–but since I’m travelling for a couple of months and have very little room for stamping stuff I can only enjoy the samples that you show and file the ideas for later use.

My favorite room in our house is our four season room. It is painted a bright yellow, and we have a palm tree that our daughter painted in the corner that continues on the ceiling… It has windows on all three sides of the room, and is bright and cheerful… It brings a smile to my face everytime I go in there.

My favourite room has to be our living room. The walls are “nicely neutral” (or “boring beige” - depending on your preference), but what I really love are the various ‘touches’ of colour throughout the room. The emerald green sofa, the grey/white/gold central carpet, and my collection of cobalt blue glass, which sits on just about every flat surface. While the colours are somewhat formal, it’s definitely a well-lived-in room. I guess it’s everybody’s favourite!

Thanks for the chance to win some Hero Arts goodies!

My favourte room at the moment is not my craft room because that is in the attic and takes a long time to get warm… instead it’s the living room which is painted in Terracotta (two and a half walls -the remaining half wall is glass from the conservatory), and Sand (for the wall opposite the conservatory) and has a White ceiling.

My favourite room is my dinning room. White ceiling and crown moulding with dark plum walls. I call this my wedding cake room. You can visualize the white wedding cake with the dark plum/grape icing rose buds on the cake. I have many family pictures in this room.
