Watch it Wednesday: Mini Card with a Surprise!
Happy Wednesday!
Today I have a video for you demonstrating making a mini card with a hidden surprise, along with a fabulous scrapbook page using mini photos.
First…the video! When you open this 4″ x 4″ card, a gift card pops up. (And, again, I used a non-holiday stamp - the ClearDesign Birds and Branches bird - for a holiday card.)
Size: 4″ x 4″
Supplies:
- DesignBlock Flourish
- Clear Design Birds and Branches
- Clear Design Holiday Gift Tags
- Sparkle Clear Holiday Messages
- Christmas Colorbox Ink Queue
- Black Memories Ink
- Felt Poinsettia and Leaves
- Hero Arts Pearls
- Hero Arts Clear Gemstones (the tiny ones are good for eyes…try coloring them black!)
- Other: Bo Bunny patterned paper, craft knife, circle punches
Now, I couldn’t do a “mini” week without talking about mini photos on scrapbook pages. So I asked a scrapbooking pro who is the expert of using mini photos: Leslie Lightfoot. Leslie said, “I really like being able to fit a lot of photos onto a one-page layout. I often use collages in order to get several mini photos together in a neat and tidy fashion. Mini photos on a layout are nice when accompanied by a larger ‘focal’ shot like the one I used here of myself with my children. I think that by using several photos on a page, you support the theme of your layout and better tell the story through the photographs.”
Size: photos are 1.75″ x 1.75″ except for the larger focal photo which is 3.5″ x 3.5″
Supplies:
- Bird on a Branch
- Assorted Clear Circles
- Card Buttons Spring
- Felt Poinsettia and Leaves
- Pink Memories Ink
- Other: Patterned paper, flower punch, circle punch
And, of course, Leslie was kind enough to also do a matching mini card…
Size: 4″ x 3 1/2″
Supplies:
- Clear Design Birds and Branches
- Clear Design Memories
- Assorted Clear Circles
- Pink Memories Ink
- ArtPrint Brown Memories Ink
- Other: KI Memories patterned paper, Stickles, cardstock
Thanks for visiting again today! We will be back tomorrow with the winners of last week’s challenge. See you then…

Thanks for this–I used it as a jumping-off point for a gift-card holder for this Christmas. I ended up decorating all 3 surfaces: front, card holder, and inside back. Worked very well (except for the one whose slot is too narrow, darn it!).
Thanks!
