Watch it Wednesday with the Web Artists: Kid Style!
Wow, it’s already Wednesday – we’re right in the middle of birthday week with the Web Artists and I hope you’re enjoying the party! I’m glad you’ve stopped by today because we have more birthday goodness to share with you as we turn our focus to kids’ birthdays. Featured today are two original kid-themed birthday projects from Web Artists Laura Griffin and Kandis Smith. We also have a brand new video, so stay tuned!
First up is Laura to tell you about the adorable animal card she designed with a child in mind.
“Most of the birthday cards I make are for adults, but I love having the chance to create cards for my niece and nephew each year too. I fell in love with the School Animals stamp set when I first saw it in the Spring Supplement Catalog. The images were so darling that I wanted to find a way to use as many as possible on a single card. The design below is perfect to mass produce since you can stamp a number of images at once on white cardstock, color them in, and punch them out. For those of you that have children, you no doubt attend a number of parties each year for their school or neighborhood friends. Wouldn’t it be great to make a stash of child-themed birthday cards to have on hand throughout the year?
After you’ve punched out your stamped images, mount them onto solid-colored larger circles and adhere with foam tape to your card front. It adds dimension & really makes the circles pop off of your card. Add gemstones & glitter around the sentiment circle for a nice finishing touch.”
Supplies:
- School Animals Playful Prints
- Sunny Birthday
- Neutral Notecards
- Spring Notecards
- Summer Notecards
- Gemstones
- Ultra Fine Prisma Glitter
- Memories Ink Pad - Black
- Other: 1 1/4″ & 1 3/8″ circle punches (EK Success), red grosgrain ribbon (Offray), markers, glue, foam adhesive dots
I know my own kids would be delighted to receive a fun card like Laura’s. Since today is Watch It Wednesday, Laura has also put together a wonderful video for your viewing pleasure – watch below as she shares her animal card tips and techniques.
Great job Laura! Next, feast your eyes on this super sweet birthday layout from Kandis Smith. This girl has such a fabulous signature style – I love it!
Kandis shares this about her layout: “My son, Logan, just had his third birthday last weekend. He was old enough now to enjoy the excitement building up to the party. Along with talking about the party non-stop, he learned how to hold up three fingers when he was asked how old he was turning. Logan was so proud, I just had to capture it!”
”I love using primary colors on birthday layouts, especially for little boys. I highlighted the number sticker with a circle stamp, layering a yellow circle over top. I didn’t want the balloon stamps to take your eye away from the pictures, so I decided to use red ink on top of red cardstock for a subtle effect. I added some ribbon ties for fun!”
Supplies:
- ClearDesign: Dots and Lines
- ClearDesign: Cupcakes
- ClearDesign Circular Designs
- Sunny Birthday
- Balloons
- Memories Ink Pad - Cherry Red
- Memories Ink Pad - Blue
Thanks Kandis and Laura! Both of your birthday projects are simply adorable.

Hi Ashley,
I’m always looking for ribbon storage solutions. I use Cropper Hopper embellishment boxes to store some of my thinner ribbons. The boxes are sold in packs of 12 (online & at many local craft stores). You can take your ribbon off of the store-bought spool & wrap it around a pencil or other object. Then slip the ribbon into the box with the edge sticking out & it’s ready to go whenever you need it! You can store multiple embellishment boxes (i think around 90 or so?) in the larger Cropper Hopper embellishment organizers.

I love the idea of punching out images and matting with color, it’s like little frames. Really cute card.
