Motivating you with Flowers for Spring

It’s Monday…so let’s get motivated!
April Showers bring May flowers right? To celebrate SPRING and all its glory I’ve decided to dedicate my entire blog week to Flowers. Here in Illinois, we’ve had TONS of rain following a very long cold winter; I’m in the mood for gardening. How about you?

Each day this week I’ll be using a different Hero Arts flower image. My head is spinning with ideas to bring you. I’ve put together a few projects and a video to get you all pumped up and inspired for your challenge this week. For today’s examples I am using the ever so simple, Outline Flower. I’ve used it in four ways. I’ve gone back through some of my favorite techniques and found one that’s perfect for this flower, Tape Transfer using common packing tape. Let’s take a look.

I couldn’t pass up this delicious “Sugared” paper by Basic Grey….and as soon as I spotted this inexpensive photo frame, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I would like you all to consider Stamp Crafting as an option for your entries for this week.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  • Start with a 5″x7″ acrylic frame. Cut papers to fit.
  • Stamp flowers to the right with brown ink to create a background, shade slightly with pencils.
  • Add Photo, and photo corner (from Basic Grey Pack).
  • Stamp additional flowers from pattern paper, cut out one large one to use as an embellishment, cut the centers from the remaining flowers to affix to the centers of the background flowers.
  • Slide the photo panel into the frame.
  • Adhere Bazzil border and additional paper scraps. Thread buttons and affix with glue dots. Adhere flower embellishment with a gemstone.
  • Stamp the flower with Cotton White StazOn in the upper left corner to finish.
  • This week’s challenge is to use Flowers in your cards, scrapbook pages, projects or stamp crafts. Simply submit your entry to the Hero Arts Flickr Group by May 25 at 11:59pmPST and tag it with the code word “Flowers“. (See the FAQ for more on Flickr.) We will pick several winners, and here are some of the great prizes:

    1st place: $50 of new Hero Arts stamps + a 2008 catalog

    2nd place: $25 of new Hero Arts stamps + a 2008 catalog

    3rd place: $10 of new Hero Arts stamps + a 2008 catalog

I feel a giveaway coming on. Take a peek at this….

I love my lavender, I have 3 kinds, English, French, and um.. another one =) It was the first thing i plants when we moved in and I cut a little each year on mothers day to give to my mum, MIL and all the grandmothers, tied with a ribbon that has a matching mother’s day card. It smells so lovely and is so reminiscent of things soft, gentle, purply and sweet smelling.

Flowers are the best and especially this time of the year after a long COLD spring. I have so many favorites, right now my two most favorites would be tulips and peonies. Unbelievably, here in Minnesota, the tulips are at their peak which is about a month behind. They will lead right into peonies!

Great blog and great cards. Love the Hero stamps!

I’d have to say I’m a glutton for flowers of all kinds. Presently the real ones I like are liliy of the valley and bleeding hearts- have a frient who has white bleeding hearts- very pretty. Flower stamps are fun, but I know I’m really bad when I take the only break in an all day class to do die cut large flowers for backgrounds so I’m fully stocked when I get home. Stamps store easy- die cuts are large and pricey. one should always take advantage of flowers. Loved the new techniques I learned from this blog. Thanks.

Judging from the cards shared in the Flicker Group this week, we all love our flowers, birds, and butterflies. I have really enjoyed seeing all these and getting multiple ideas for using stamps.

Thanks for the storage ideas too. I have a fairly large stamp/scrap room, but usually have several projects going at once, so I still manage to create clutter. My biggest storage issue is scraps. Can’t bear to toss anything, so I end up with boxes of scrap cardstock that I keep sorted by color family. I swear they sneak out and multiply at night.
